However remote the villages are, they are Russia.  And there you will find a world where books are read with almost sacred respect.  Still, the vast majority of village school libraries are filled with books at least 50 years old.  But there is no shortage in Russia today of the highest quality books -- comparable to any you will find in London, Paris, New York, or Boston.  The only thing keeping them out of the hands of both children and teachers is a lack of funds to purchase them.
We buy the highest quality hardbound books and only what the school director and teachers themselves select.  Their primary requests are for encyclopedias, the classics, English language books and dictionaries, as well as art, science, and history books.  Fairy tales are bought for the youngest children and "how to" books for the village families to use.  All the books are bought in Russia, thereby helping the local merchants, while at the same time enabling our resources to go much further.
